THE IDEA
Tatar in city life
The campaign brings young people, musicians, schools and community organisations together around everyday use of Tatar, combining city games, discussion of the language environment and contemporary music.
The campaign culminates in a gala concert on 26 April, Gabdulla Tukay’s birthday, bringing established artists and young performers selected through a music competition onto one stage.
What the project includes
Kazan Quiz
A quiz about Tatar language, culture, history and science.
Music competition
Young performers submit their work, with the best selected to perform at the gala concert.
Gala concert
Live Tatar music across genres, from folk and jazz to rap and pop.
The language environment
Monitoring Tatar language use, talks and discussion of ways to support it. The campaign includes the “Difficult with Tatar” anti-award.
